Intergraph® to Provide Central Goldfields Shire Council with Complete GeoMedia® Product Suite

March 28, 2012

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Central Goldfields Shire Council (CGSC) in Victoria, Australia, selects Intergraph®’s GeoMedia® suite to extend the value of its geospatial data by simplifying and expanding access to its spatial assets and facilitating faster, more informed decision-making.

CGSC’s former GIS system was unable to comply with the latest open technology standards, such as web deployment, analysis, data capture and editing, querying and plotting. Intergraph’s open standards solution allowed the council to gradually migrate its existing GIS to GeoMedia with minimal cost and little operational disruption.

In the initial deployment phase, CGSC’s GIS department will use GeoMedia Professional to capture and edit spatial data and enhance productivity gains for collecting and modifying data and speeding implementation of GIS databases. Intergraph’s GeoMedia WebMap will be used across the organization to provide direct, real-time access to enterprise geospatial data, allowing CGSC to build a website that offers access to a powerful, dynamic and open geospatial application. GeoMedia Smart Client, the latest addition to the Intergraph GeoMedia product suite, will allow CGSC employees who require more specialized functionality within their specific departments to operate full desktop products with advanced geospatial workflows that cannot be supported by web mapping tools.

Intergraph’s GeoMedia product suite is a set of well-integrated applications that provide a wide range of geospatial processing capabilities. Its solutions enable users to bring data from disparate databases into a single geospatial environment for viewing, management, analysis and presentation. Through the use of GeoMedia, users can avoid issues with redundant and out-of-date information, and improve collaboration efforts because all data is obtained from a single source. The open-standards based GeoMedia product line is built in accordance with Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) standards and is used worldwide by organizations in the utilities, communications, transportation and government sectors to fully leverage existing data and improve operations. The GeoMedia product line continues to support mainstream database platforms like Oracle Spatial and Microsoft® SQL Server.

"One of the most important benefits of Intergraph GeoMedia is its low administration overhead for publishing information in various departments across Central Goldfield Shire,” states Diane Daniell, GIS Administrator, Central Goldfields Shire Council. “Although we are still in the implementation process, we are already using GeoMedia to improve our staff productivity and increase the amount of easily interpreted information into our new mapping environment."

“The GeoMedia suite is one of the most advanced, yet simple-to-use, solutions for performing in-depth analysis of spatial data and for accessing and distributing the data in various formats across the enterprise,” says Mladen Stojic, Vice President – Geospatial, Intergraph. “We are pleased to see Central Goldfield Shire Council adopt Intergraph’s GeoMedia as its new, upgraded GIS. We are committed to CGSC’s growth and believe GeoMedia is the optimal tool for the job.”

CGSC is scheduled for complete implementation of Intergraph’s GeoMedia product suite in April 2012.
